ABRIDGED CLUB HISTORY

On the 14th November 1949 an interest meeting was held to discuss the formation of a Bowling Club in the Shire of Doncaster and Templestowe. The Club was formed on 15th December 1949 with the election of a President, Secretary and General Committee.

Doncaster was then an orchard community, the total homes in the Shire being approximately eight hundred.

The foundation members were in the main, orchardists. They, with the help of other residents of the Shire, formed the first green. Over the ensuing years, the first class premises and greens have been achieved mainly by voluntary labour.

Outside contractors have been engaged for some of the major constructions of the Clubhouse and the greens. Finance for these developments has come from social activities, donations, loans from members and some Council funding.

The Club has won two Division One R.V.B.A. Pennants, six lower R.V.B.A. Division Pennants and many R.V.B.A. - V.L.B.A. Section Pennants.

We proudly hosted the first Australian Games. A number of our members have represented Victoria in Interstate Games. A number have won State Titles. The honour Boards record the achievements of the Club and the many successes of the members.
