1949-2019 A PLATINUM ANNIVERSARY

The Board of Management decided to celebrate Doncaster’s 70 years of history with an afternoon tea.

Invitations were sent to the councillors at the City of Manningham, to the local Federal Member Kevin Andrews, to Matthew Guy our State Member, and to our sponsors . Lists were displayed in the clubhouse inviting club members.

The Social Committee decided on the menu and the decorations, then it was all systems go for 2pm on Friday November 22nd.

118 members attended.

Peter Letos Doncaster’s Executive Chairman welcomed the Mayor Paul McLeish and also Kevin Andrews.

There were three highlights to the afternoon.

Firstly  Darryl Bishop’s 20 minute video of the last 70 years. ( He has promised to play this again at Wednesday night meals.)

Then Irene Garrett had organised a parade of the Mens and Ladies uniforms and the changes that they have gone through over the years.

This parade was enjoyed by the audience, especially the visiting dignitaries, so much so that they all wanted to be part of the photo opportunity.

Lastly the cutting of the Anniversary cake. Arthur Ram nearly cut it alone whilst waiting impatiently for his partner Lorraine Holstock.

Champagne toasts were drunk, the club song was sung, slices of the cake were distributed, the winners of the hampers were drawn, and the happy special high tea was over.

Many guests and members stayed to reminisce.

Thank you Trisha  O’Connor, Fran Broadfoot, Irene Garrett for your organising. Thanks to several ladies and man who prepared the delicious high tea, thanks to the Social Committee for the set up, thanks to Beth Reid for inviting descendants of the Foundation Members, thanks to David Purdon for the knitted Doncaster doll,  and thanks to John Thorburn and Trisha for many of the photos. I bet I have forgotten someone so sorry in advance.

Now here is the photo that may eventually be in the local paper….Lyn Goodman.
