A WELL DESERVED AWARD
Doncaster Bowling Club has a new Life Member in Brian Morris.
Brian joined the Club in February 2001 and brought with him a wealth of business experience from years of working as an executive within News Corp. under Rupert Murdoch.
By 2003 he was again an executive, this time with Doncaster Bowls Club. He has held many positions over the last 16 years. This was in the period when the Management was changed to the Board. He has been the Deputy Executive Chairman, then the following year the Executive Chairman, then the Immediate Past Executive Chairman. He was the Secretary for seven straight years, the Public Officer, and a Director. He also represented the Bowls Committee as their President and Immediate Past President.
Brian has been in charge of sponsorship from 2002-19. Eighteen years! I think that is a record for any bowls club.
Over the years he has been on so many committees. Tournament, Synthetic Greens, Recruitment, the Bar Roster, Forward Planning, Club Records, Social, Thursday night meals, Special bowls events and functions, Match Disputes and the Yarra Region delegate.
Now that he has resigned from Committee duty he has had time to win something. Yes this year he won the 100 Up Open Handicap. I have noticed that he is lethal with his arm, both outside and at indoor bowls.
Sixteen months ago Brian recieved a Menzies Australia Day Award.
He surely deserves this Life Membership for all the time over the years that he has contributed to the running of Doncaster Bowls Club.
Congratulations Brian Morris.
