ANOTHER WEEKEND OF FINALS

Again on both Saturday and Sunday Doncaster had teams playing in ongoing finals games.

The Saturday matches were: a bye for Doncaster firsts in the Division Qualifying final,  and a Division Qualifying Game 1 for Doncaster thirds against Bacchus Marsh at Bundoora RSL Bowls Club. Sadly and unhappily the thirds did not win, they were out-classed. This was the first game they had lost all season and it was a blow to all players.

Sunday dawned, and the Doncaster firsts were off to Mount Waverley  to play  against Heatherdale Bowls Club firsts in the Division quarter final. It was a tough match. Heatherdale have come from just getting in the ” four” to this far. While Brian Salvage’s rink jumped away to a flying start, the other three plugged away, up and down , up and down till the break,  ( yes we had one) at which time  we were one point ahead.

Our rink ie: Tom Reynolds’ then got a four and a three, the others also gained according to the big score board. The wonderful spectators cheered , we were nearly there. Two rinks finished , we were still ahead.   Tom Reynold’s rink was the only one left playing with one end to go when the opposition skip conceded. The  Doncaster team had won with three rinks up and one down. Oh what an afternoon. Score Doncaster 73 to Heatherdale 58.

There were many, many Doncaster spectators, some were even there before the match began. Numbers grew as the time went on ; men, ladies, wives, husbands, couples, Mothers with their daughters and ex players. It really made a great atmosphere, wonderful to see you all and have your support, THANKYOU.

Congratulations at the end of the game

That’s how I saw and experienced the day sort of in a daze and uptight!
