CHARITY DAY AND OPENING OF THE GREENS 2017 – Doncaster Bowling Club

2 Septermber 2017

The gardening committee had the surrounds looking colourful and neat.

Michael our green keeper, accompanied by Damo, his obedient and trusty dog had just rolled the greens precisely.

Then…….
Last years Executive Chairman Garry Beckett raised the championship pennant flag, next our Bowls Section President, Dinesh Balgovind, rolled the jack, and our two singles champions Elizabeth Reid and Richard Lovell rolled the first two bowls down  to open the greens.
This is the yearly routine for the start of our Charity Day.

Just under 100 members enjoyed a game of open Selected Fours, with new players and new members mixing in with the seasoned players. The green fees, wrong bias bowls, and the special effort raised $864 for the Royal Childrens Hospital. Also Peter Johnson was awarded a very special handmade ‘Brownlow Medal’ for exceptional play in the last seasons finals. There is still an upbeat atmosphere in the club rooms. The afternoon was a good start to the season. What will this year bring?……Lyn.
