CHICKEN AND CHAMPAGNE FOR 2018 MELBOURNE CUP EVE.
Tuesday November 6th 2018. The Social Club organised a low key simple chicken and champagne Melbourne Cup Eve this year.
It was a night filled with fun and racing information.
Fun with friends, good food with a free glass of champagne, low key ‘fashions on the fields’, a phantom call, and an informative summation of the cup field from Brian Morris.
In the phantom Cup call the first, second and third places were won by Robert Bateup, Matt Cursio and Geoff Bandy.
Husband and wife Mabel and Antonio Cuce won the fashion stakes.
Brian Morris who is our club racing enthusiast gave a comprehensive run down on the horses and their chance to win in the ‘race that stops a nation.’ He covered the Cummings and Lloyd Williams factor, the horses form during the latest Group 1 races, the trainers, and the horses staying ability over two miles. He gave us the favourites, and his best roughies and importantly his selections.
Lastly the sweep was drawn for the 158th Melbourne Cup that has been called The Greatest Race on Earth.
So by 3.05pm on Tuesday Pam McLean had won first prize in the sweeps, Eileen McCormack won second and Peter Letos third……….Lyn.
Mignon Hogan certainly has the best legs in the fashion stakes.
