CUP EVE AT DONCASTER
Melbourne Cup Eve was a chicken and champagne affair.
The Social Committee also organised sweeps, a hat fashion parade, a hobby horse race and a phantom call.
The “hobby horse” event was for gallopers only, but they mostly forgot and ran. Disqualifers were few and far between. Even Norm Edwards had a go.
Here are the finalists and the winning trifecta.
Brian Morris gave his annual summation of the likely winners noting that 18 out the 24 starters were from overseas.
Lo and behold an Aussie horse eventually won!! Sweep winners names are on the notice board.
PS. There was a protest in the final of the hobby horse race. This was eventually upheld. John Thorburn came equal second but in the effort damaged his fetlock.
