HOSTING MANY FINALS

Again this season Doncaster BC has played host to both Saturday and Midweek Metro Pennant finals.

Our hosting commitments began on Thursday 7th March with the MIDWEEK PENNANT – SECTIONAL FINAL games. Results:

  • Div 1 : Sec 2 Croydon (1) 55 Hurstbridge (1) 47
  • Div 4: Sec 4 Templestowe (1) 60 Mitcham (2) 78

Luckily on Saturday 9th we had none, so we could drive to Vermont South BC and cheer on our only finals team…the fourth side. 

But on Sunday 10th we were hosting again. This was the SATURDAY PENNANT – SECTIONAL FINAL. Results:

  • Div 4: Sec 4 Lilydale (3) 70 Diamond Creek (2) 84
  • Div 6: Sec 5 Lilydale (5) 71 Mooroolbark (5) 87

The following Tuesday 12th, in cold stormy weather it was the MIDWEEK PENNANT – DIVISIONAL QUARTER FINALS. Using both greens we saw two Division 1 games on the front whilst on the back green were the Division 3 clubs. Results:

  • Div 1 Bundoora RSL (1) 68 Armadale (1) 64, Croydon (1) 55 Heathmont (1) 52
  • Div 3 Bentleigh (1) 45 Essendon (2) 56, Healesville (1) 73 North Balwyn (2) 47

Saturday 16th we hosted SATURDAY PENNANT – DIVISIONAL QUARTER FINAL. We  had been assigned many finals and players were using 16 rinks, 8 on the front green and 8 on the back. We now were running like a well-oiled machine, with volunteers everywhere…..scoreboards, umpires, bar staff, BBQ men, rubbish collectors, umbrella putter-uppers, raffle sellers and kitchen staff, whilst Gary Baird and Richard Lovell were overseeing it all. Results:

  • Div 3 : Heathmont (3) 78 Bundoora RSL (3) 68
  • Div 4 : Heathmont (4) 72 Fairfield (1) 97
  • Div 5 : Aberfeldie CBC (2) 107 Croydon (4) 55, Heathmont (5) 72 Montmorency (4) 71

On Tuesday 19th March it was the MIDWEEK PENNANT – GRAND FINALS , which of course ended with the medal and banner presentation. All games were on the front green with great spectator vantage points right around. The final scores were: 

  • Division 4: Royal Melbourne (1) 52 lost to St Albans (1) 74
  • Division 5: Epping RSL (2) 57 defeated Mt Waverley (2) 43
  • 6-a-Side: Bennettswood (2) 25 lost to Aberfeldie (1) 41

The last day was Saturday March 23rd for the Grand Finals of the Saturday Pennant. This is pinnacle of the year’s efforts for these clubs. The final scores were:

Division 4 – Chadstone (1) 78 Defeated Fairfield (1) 72 @ Doncaster BC

6-a-Side – East Ivanhoe (2) 28 Lost to Churchill Waverley Golf (3) 51 @ Doncaster BC
