NIGHT TOURNAMENT COMES TO A FINALE – Doncaster Bowling Club
So after seven weeks of the round robin competition, it was the Alan Willocks (Ivanhoe) team consisting of Dean McDonald and Deb Code that was declared the overall winner in a closely fought contest. They finished on 112 points just ahead of the gallant Irene Garrett’s team ( the only lady skip to win) on 109 points, with William Tan’s team finishing third on 108 points.
With leads and seconds having three bowls each instead of the usual two, and the skips having access to a power play, (which was often left to the last end, or …. oops……. sometimes forgotten about altogether!), and a lucky-dip team each week, it made it a night competition with several twists that was enjoyed by everyone.
Sixteen teams participated, sometimes with substitutes, due to work commitments, injuries or holidays.
Being the final night we all came inside to drinks and a pizza supper whilst awaiting the score calculations for the first five teams. When Dinesh announced the winners he prolonged the suspense by beginning with the fifth place.
Thank you Dinesh for making this competition happen from your own original idea, and thanks Nikki Carriero for being his right hand person. |
