Background

Bowls Australia has transitioned from SportsTG to a new provider called Bowlslink. Data transfer from SportsTG to Bowlslink occurred in September 2018.

Our Bowlslink website became live in February 2019. While some data relating to the period September 2018 – February 2019 was manually transferred by the DBC web team not all data was transferred.

Also note that if there are links to the Photo Gallery in the news article they will not work when the SportsTG links cease to operate.

 

SUE TYSON OUR SINGLES CHAMPION WINS AT THE STELLAR VICTORIAN OPEN.

Friday November 23rd. Yesterday Sue Tyson was the lead in the winning women’s triples final at this years Stellar Victorian Open Competition held in Shepparton.


THE WEATHER TAXED US

Thursday November 22nd. The persistent rain eventually beat the Taxation Department Mixed Fours annual game last night.


THE INAUGURAL VISIT TO HEATHCOTE BOWLING CLUB

On Sunday November 18th. 45 bowlers happily travelled up to central Victoria to play at the picturesque Heathcote Bowling Club. Irene Garrett instigated this trip as her sister-in-law Sharon Vowles is one of the ten ladies at this country club.


OUR 2018 WOMEN’S CHAMPION IS STILL WINNING

Tuesday 13 th November. Sue Tyson and her partner have won the Goulburn Valley district pairs.


OUR FABULOUS XMAS HAMPERS

Thursday November 8th. Pauline Donovan and Leonie Kirby have excelled again to make the Xmas hampers look so professional. They must be the best bowling club hampers in Melbourne.


CHICKEN AND CHAMPAGNE FOR 2018 MELBOURNE CUP EVE.

Tuesday November 6th 2018. The Social Club organised a low key simple chicken and champagne Melbourne Cup Eve this year.


TEACHER’S WORKSHOPS AT DBC.

Sunday November 4th. Over the last three Fridays there have been Primary School Teachers workshops held in the clubrooms.


BOB URQUHART REPRESENTS FORMER NEWSBOYS AT THE NEWSBOYS FOUNDATION 125 ANNIVERSARY CONCERT

The Newsboys Foundation is celebrating its 125 years of helping young people who are experiencing disadvantage. Bob represented former Newsboys on stage at the Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at the Melbourne Recital Centre with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and Outer Urban Projects.


BEE IS FOR BOWLING

October 31 2018 Early this morning a swarm of Honey bees were discovered hanging around the beautiful gardens at Doncaster Bowling Club in JJ Tully Drive.

Sunday October 14th. Doncaster Bowls Club held a very successful New Members Day with five people signing up.

Friday October 12th. Twenty ladies came to see what Julie from ‘Posties Fashion House’ had to show them to help update their spring and summer wardrobe.


GOLD ON THE GOLD COAST.

October 6th. 2018. Brian Donovan has won a gold medal in the Bowls Singles and a bronze medal in the Bowls Pairs at the 16th Australian Transplant Games recently held on the Gold Coast. Also reported in the Manningham Leader dated 15 October 2018.


A WONDERFUL START TO WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEALS

Wednesday October 3rd. What a successful night we had for the first evening of Wednesday night meals. Such a noisy happy crowd.


A.F.L. GRANDFINAL EVE 2018

Our ” One Day in September ” was cold and miserable outside but we saw the last practice match through, came inside for the annual Pennant Information speeches, had happy hour and warmed up for the ” Footy Night” of frivolity.


VALE BILL CHERRIE

One of the real gentlemen of our club has died. Bill Cherrie passed away on Wednesday 19th September. He was 87.

OPEN DAY ROLL UP AND CHARITY DAY 2018-19 SEASON

Brian Salvage, 2017-18 Club Men’s Singles Champion, rolled down the first bowl for the season on Saturday, 1st September, on a cool and rain drizzled day.


A DIFFERENT TAKE TO OPENING NIGHT 2018

Saturday September 1st. Due to circumstances we catered ourselves this year. Fran Broadfoot organised the menu, and us!!!! We calculated, shopped, cooked and prepared for over 105 members and partners, invited guests and friends.


AN AWARD WINNING YEAR FOR BOB BYRON

August 30th. 2018. In May, Bob was awarded a Life Membership of Doncaster Bowls Club. Now in August, he has received the VIBBA ( Victorian Indoor Biased Bowls Association)Service Award Badge for his contributions to Indoor Bowls at Doncaster and ESIBBA. Doncaster Bowlers journeyed north recently by five of our bowlers to Norfolk Island with members of Donvale Bowling Club.

Sunday 5th August. Wednesday July 31st was Graeme Warren’s last game at Doncaster because he and wife Judith are moving to Torquay. He was given a small send off during the tea break.


SPICK AND SPAN FOR ANOTHER SEASON

August 4 th, Neil English who this year is responsible for ‘ house and physical environment ‘ has organised a group of men to do some painting and repairs especially around the Bob Grisold green.

July 27th. It is with much sadness that our club says farewell to another player from the ‘White Flag ‘ team.


SUNSHINE COAST WINTER BOWLS CARNIVAL 2018

A group of 4 bowlers from Doncaster Bowling Club attended the Annual Winter Sunshine Coast Bowls Carnival. A big contingent of bowlers from widespread Australia plus a large group from New Zealand competed. Many of these bowlers had just recently finished competing in the the 2018 Australian Open at the Gold Coast thus the standard was high.

Every week there is something going on. Various groups meet locally for dinner or coffee, or cards, or the movies. Two groups recently went to a play at the Doncaster Playhouse. Its title was “The Old People Are Revolting.”

APPLEWOOD CLASSIC OPEN FOURS 2018

Sunday 15-April-2018. One hundred and sixty players from our own and 24 other various metropolitan clubs were rugged up and ready to go when a weather delay was announced. This allowed time for either another cuppa or another fortifying red!!


WINDY AND WET PRESIDENT’S DAY.

Saturday 14-April-2018 weather wise and activity wise was a completely different day to last year. No one wanted to venture outside. First we would have been blown away, then we would have been drenched.


TUESDAY NIGHT TOURNAMENT

April 10, the successful Tuesday night tournament is more than half way through.

EDINBURGH SHIELD 2018 AT COROWA, N.S.W.

A group of 22 bowlers from Doncaster Bowling Club made a journey to Corowa on Friday, April 6th, to contest in the Edinburgh Shield, which was held on the weekend of 7th and 8th of April.


THE EASTER RAFFLE

The Easter Raffle was drawn today (March 24th). Both first and fourth prize was won by a Beaumaris member, Jak. His partner is pictured. Second prize went to Alan B, and third to Ozzie Peiters.


LUCKY TO PLAY

It rained for the first time in over 40 days and this was the Saturday that Doncaster had been assigned the Division 2 Grand Final between Beaumaris and Lalor.


SUPER VETS AND LIFE MEMBERS DAY 2018

There was a wonderful atmosphere in the club rooms as at least 35 Super Veterans and Life Members met for their annual luncheon.


MORE FINALS AT DONCASTER.

We are coming to the pointy end of the season and Bowls Victoria awarded us with three finals this weekend (17 March). A Premier Division game, a Division 1 game and a Division 7 game.


ANNUAL ATO DAY

This is the 29th year that the former workers ( and one or two who are still employed) from the Australian Tax Office have come to Doncaster for their annual game.


LAST THURSDAY NIGHT MEAL FOR SUMMER SEASON.

Over 100 members, family and friends attended for the final Thursday night meal of this 2018 summer season.

Wow, what a big weekend! Doncaster played host to several Sectional Semi Finals and Finals.

Our team of four rinks met a very strong team from Heathmont who were on their own very fast home greens. Disappointedly we were not winners on the day, but it was this team, which was the only Saturday team to make it to the finals, and they did their best to represent our club. Well done……Bob.

Remember the wash out when the Barleycorners were scheduled to play in December? No such happening this time. The night was balmy.

During the lunch break in a recent Wednesday Triples event there was an extra incentive to buy a special effort ticket when Jill Ford and her daughter Lisa Catterall attended and donated ‘team prizes’ in memory of our late member Brian Ford.

YARRA REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS DELIVERS HIGH QUALITY BOWLING AT DONCASTER.

Wednesday evening February 14 saw Doncaster host several Semi finals and a Final for the Yarra Region. Thirteen clubs were represented by their champions. Rosanna, Richmond Union, MCC., Templestowe, Doncaster, Montmorency, Donvale, Bundoora, Hurstbridge, Auburn, Hawthorn, East Ivanhoe and Darebin City.

The Australia Day Menzies Community Awards ceremony held at the Council Chambers on Friday the 26th of January honoured two Doncaster Bowling Club members.

Thirty -four years and still going strong! That is our friendship with the Victoria Bowling Club from Ballarat. Another very successful bowling and social exchange day was held between our two clubs on Sunday January 7th. This year more than 103 players and friends attended.

DAVID NORMAN WINS A MAZDA2

Several weeks ago David Norman entered an Australia wide competition at his local Swimart Pool shop in Jackson Court. The prize was a brand new Mazda2 and he WON!!


CORPORATE EVENTS

Twenty four hours after the deluge we hosted the first of the Corporate Xmas events. The greens drain so very well.


THE NIGHT THAT THE RAIN CAME DOWN

The Barleycorners were invited for their annual game against Doncaster, and they were rearing to go. They were the first to be served their Thursday night meal, when the sky opened and the rain came down, and down and down. It just poured. Several people moved to the windows to take photos with their iPhones. The front and back green became lakes within five minutes. Geoff Bandy cancelled the game. Oh dear. XMAS DINNER DANCE 2017

Pennant was completely abandoned due to the very wet weather but that made for more energetic movers on the dance floor during the annual Christmas Dinner Dance.


STORIES AND TALES FROM THE WHITE FLAG FINALS.

Jack Everall has lent me his wonderful scrapbook that was compiled by his Mother and which is full of newspaper clippings and photos of the 1984-5 and 1986-7 “White Flag Finals.” I want to share some of the stories. PLAYING IN THE STELLER VICTORIA OPEN

Ten of our members journeyed up to the Shepparton region to play in various games in the Victorian Open.


CHICKEN AND BUBBLY DAY 2017

The weather was warm and humid so numbers were down this year. We played bowls on the greenest of greens until 12.30pm, and then retreated inside for a delicious lunch.


IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE XMAS.

The hampers are almost complete and the trading table has a red and green theme, so is time to buy tickets and browse the goodies.

Another boisterous and successful Cup Eve function was held last night with over 70 members, their families and their friends participating.

There has been a happy wedding of one of our members, and this has also joined two of the families within the Bowling Club. Sharyn Arnold has married Graeme Vowels who is Irene Garrett’s brother.

Frank Woodcock who played in both the teams that won Doncaster’s Division One’s white flags has died.


DONCASTER LADIES SUCCESS AT MONTMORENCY

October 22nd. Two Doncaster teams played in the Ladies Invitation Fours at Montmorency Bowling Club. Pamela McLean’s team won the best second game and Debbie Code who was a single entry in a composite team won the money. Well done Ladies. Sadly the other Doncaster team only won chocolate frogs!!, but still enjoyed themselves…..Lyn Goodman.


INK IN THE BLOOD

Bob Urquhart was recently invited to the Presentation of ‘Ink in the Blood” at the Melbourne Town Hall, which covered the life of Melbourne Newspaper Production and how the industry was before the computer age took over the preparation and printing of Newspapers in Melbourne.

Today Thursday October 12th several ladies enjoyed choosing part of their spring and summer wardrobe with Posties Fashion House.

It was the first Thursday Night Meals for this 2017-18 season and our sponsors ‘Applewood Retirement Village’ as well as ‘Angoves Wines’ were very generous by each donating two hampers. ‘Tobin Brothers’ also donated the lucky member draw.


OUR LONG SEPTEMBER DAY IN 2017

Friday 29th September was a very busy and long day for many members. First there was an intra club game. Second , a presentation of a new Australian flag. Thirdly an information session. And fourth a Footy Finals Eve Social night.


FOOTBALL FINALS FEVER 2017

Nothing else brings a Melbourne crowd together like the AFL Grand Final. And so it was for our Grand Final Eve Social Evening. Eighty members and friends resplendent in their team scarves, jumpers, beanies, caps and sox enjoyed such a simple fun night.

 


A NEW AUSTRALIAN FLAG FOR D.B.C.

The member for Menzies, the Hon Kevin Andrews MP today presented Doncaster Bowling Club with a new Australian flag. Executive Chairman Neil English and Bowls Committee President Dinesh Balgovind proudly accepted it.


CHARITY DAY AND OPENING OF THE GREENS 2017

Saturday September 2nd. And so begins another Pennant year. The gardening committee had the surrounds looking colourful and neat. Michael, our green keeper, accompanied by Damo his obedient and trusty dog had just rolled the greens precisely. Then……. Last years Executive Chairman Garry Beckett raised the championship pennant flag, next our Bowls Section President Dinesh Balgovind rolled the jack and our two singles champions Elizabeth Reid and Richard Lovell rolled the first two bowls to the open the greens. This is the yearly routine for the start of our Charity Day.


OPENING NIGHT 2017

The 2017-18 summer season got underway as Chairman Neil English welcomed over 130 members, family and friends to the club’s opening night dinner sponsored by Applewood Retirement Living.

The APPLEWOOD JACKPOT went off with a bang today as little Jake who came along with Carla from Applewood drew the winning number.


A TRIP TO THE SUNSHINE COAST BOWLING CARNIVAL

Five Doncaster members escaped two weeks of the Melbourne chill and headed to the Sunshine Coast to participate in their 55th Winter Bowling Carnival.


2017 RINGWOOD MAZDA CHALLENGE

The Ringwood Mazda sponsored 10 week Open Triples Progressive Challenge this year has been won by the Laurie Hogan team with Gus Rosa and William Tan.

Presentation night 2017 was the culmination to a stellar Saturday Pennant season.

 


EASTER BASKET RAFFLE WINNERS

Two happy ladies won the Easter baskets raffle. First prize went to BEV BENIAS and second prize to ANNA POUKI. The baskets contained soft toys, serviettes, and a variety of chocolate eggs.


DBC THIRD IN EDINBURGH SHIELD AT FINLEY, N.S.W.

A contingent of 21 bowlers and partners attended the Duke of Edinburgh Shield at Finley in New South Wales headed by Darryl Bishop and Bill Cherry in managing the accommodation and the draw. Doncaster Bowling club achieved 3rd place in the tournament of 5 games each of 12 ends on Saturday 8th and 9th of April, 2017.


APPLEWOOD OPEN TRIPLES CARNIVAL 2017

The marquee event on our calendar year was a success with 34 teams participating. Again we were lucky with excellent weather, and again visitors commented on our excellent greens. Teams came from the surrounding suburbs and from as far away as Beaumaris and Preston/Reservoir.

MORE WINNERS WHO ARE GRINNERS

Monday March 27th. Our Ladies champion Elizabeth Reid and the runner- up Debbie Code have won the 2017 Sinclair Sheild, which was played at Heathmont BC yesterday. This annual Women’s Championship event is played as a pairs game. It is open to the singles champion and her runner-up from all the clubs in the Metropolitan area. CONGRATULATIONS LADIES! WELL DONE!

 


 

A VICTORIOUS FINISH TO THE JUGGERNAUT THAT ROLLED ON AND ON AND ON AND ON.

Saturday March 25th. We knew they could do it! What a marvellous finish to a fantastic finals run. Doncaster 4 were victorious to a determined Rosanna 3 in the Metropolitan Grand Final at Lalor today. The final score being 74 Doncaster, 59 Rosanna. Oh yes, happy days ARE really here again.


MEN’S & WOMEN’S SUPER VETERANS & LIFE MEMBERS DAY

Tuesday March 21st. Such a busy, exciting and happy week. Today DBC hosted 28 of our Super Veterans and Life Members to their special annual luncheon.

RAGS TO RICHES 4TH TEAM MAKES IT TO METROPOLITAN GRAND FINAL

A proud group of bowlers coped with the heat at Ivanhoe Bowls club and convincingly defeated a strong Keilor side by 30 shots.

Bitter sweet amongst the joy. That’s today’s results. Side 4 had another resounding win in their Division Semi Final which was against Keillor…..CONGRATULATIONS! Whilst Side 1 lost their Division Semi Final by 2 shots on the very last end.

Oh my, it was deja vue just like last Saturday and Sunday with both sides winning again in their Divisional Quarter Finals. What a wonderful happy day.


ATO COMES TO DONCASTER

Friday March 17th. Today Doncaster Bowls Club hosted the Taxation Bowling Club’s ‘Office Bowls Day’ for their annual social competition. The competition consists of several games before and after lunch and then trophies are presented during afternoon tea.

Sunday March 12 2017 Doncaster’s Side 1 and 4 have both won their sectional finals in brilliant fashion today.

 


OH HAPPY DAY !

Happy days are here again with two out of three Doncaster teams winning their Saturday Pennant sectional semi-finals and thereby gaining promotion in the Bowls Victoria competition.


SAUSAGE SIZZLE TO WIND-UP THE PENNANT SEASON

Along with the usual drinks our players and their opponents enjoyed a free sausage sizzle to mark the end of the 2016-7 pennant season.

On Friday March 3, many teachers from Whitefriars Catholic College, in Donvale, enjoyed their annual barefoot bowls evening at Doncaster Bowling Club.

MIDWEEK OPEN PENNANT SUCCESS

There have been quiet celebrations after three of the four Open Pennant sides are all in the final 4 on their respective ladders. The other Open side finished sixth. This is a pleasing result..

 


TUESDAY PENNANT, WOMEN ONLY AND OPEN TRIPLES TEAMS.

Because Doncaster has five Tuesday Pennant teams, on alternative weeks three play at home and two play away. The next week this is usually reversed.


FINAL ANGOVES WINE TASTING FOR 2016-17 SEASON.

Eighty seven people attended the February wine tasting evening.

Yarra Region Women’s Singles Championship

Last Sunday (22 January), Debbie Code played in the Yarra Region singles championship final. Great endurance and performance…….well done Debbie.

Elizabeth Reid and Gerda van der Peet are the women’s pairs champions and Brian Salvage and Barry Hardman are men’s pairs champions for 2016-17. Congratulations to all our finalists in the club pairs championships.

DBC VISIT TO VICTORIA BOWLING CLUB, BALLARAT, 2017

This year, it was our turn on January 8 to visit Victoria Bowling Club at Ballarat. It was a lovely day with the temperature around 29 degrees. About 40 bowlers from DBC travelled by bus, leaving at 9.30 a.m. and arriving at Ballarat approximately 11.30a.m…….Write up and photos by Bob Urquhart and some photos by Maurice Ryan.


Lawn bowler Shayne Barwick completes 73-hour game to set world record, raises $20,000 for club

Cloncurry Bowls Club manager Shayne Barwick started on Friday morning and played for 73 hours, rolling his final ball at 10:00am today in front of a cheering crowd of supporters.


CHRISTMAS EVE AT DBC

A large group of members gathered in the clubrooms on Christmas Eve bringing a plate to celebrate Yuletide. There was plenty of food to be had and everyone had a good time enjoying the company of fellow bowlers. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MEMBERS…….Bob.


BRIAN DONOVAN THE ACHIEVER

Brian Donovan is another hard working volunteer behind the scenes. This year he has helped recruit 14 new members and now he is organising bare foot bowls evenings. Over 80 people have enjoyed these evenings so far.


BILLYS LOUNGE SHOPPING TOWN BAREFOOT BOWLERS

Billys Coffee Lounge Staff from Shoppingtown celebrated their Christmas Breakup at Doncaster Bowling Club, on Tuesday, December 13, with Barefoot Bowls and enjoyed the evening in the clubrooms with 20 Pizzas and Presentations to the 20 young people who attended.

 


CHRISTMAS MIRTH

The Annual Christmas Dinner Dance was an outstanding success. The highlight of the night was the entrance of Santa and his two elves.

Each year Christmas seems to come faster and faster, and at the moment you cannot miss the tables displaying the 10 beautiful hampers. At very short notice the Social Committee organised a three hour get together on Cup Eve.

 


A GREAT DAY FOR TUESDAY PENNANT

Tuesday October 25th was a very successful day in windy conditions. ALL TEAMS WON! The Women’s Only played away, and the four Open teams played at home. One Open team (the Triples) had a bye, they practiced against each other, so technically that was a tie. Still a great day!……Lyn. .

A SURPRISED AND VERY HAPPY COMBINATION

A surprised but very happy Doncaster team won the Montmorency Bowling Club’s ‘ Ladies Invitation Fours.’ This was the first time that Lorraine Hampton ….ex Doncaster (skip), Dianne Phelan (third), Debbie Code (second) and Lyn Goodman (lead) had played together as a team, or had attended such an event. It was special to be invited, and all four agreed that it was an awesome day. Another Doncaster team attended, consisting of Lorraine Bradshaw, Jill Ford, Pat Calabrisi and Bettecke Norman. Teresa Bowden was also there, and she won two raffles!

This year $642 for the Royal Children’s Hospital was raised on our Charity Day on September 2nd. Before the game began Brian Morris rolled the jack and then the current club champions Debbie Code and Matt Cursio rolled the first two bowls. Lyn and Bob.

NEW BOWLS GRANTS COACHING NEW BOWLERS

Peter Letos, who is responsible for grant applications, our Coach Richard Lovell, and bare-foot bowls organizer Brian Donovan, are pleased to receive these special coaching bowls. Because of the two grants which came from Vic Health and Manningham Council, the club was able to buy five new sets of coaching bowls from the DSG Bowls Shop in Doncaster Rd. LOSERS ARE SURPRISED WINNERS

Nobody was more surprised and delighted than Fran Broadfoot and her triples team by winning the accumulated money when a minus 33 was drawn from the barrel. Yes, losers can turn into winners in the Wednesday Applewood Triples Competition.

SCUBA DIVING WITH TERESA BOWDEN

I discovered scuba diving 20 years ago at the Great Barrier Reef and straight away I was hooked.


MIDWINTER BOWLING

Some days are sunny, some days are cold and winter bowls are more than half way through. Leading the points scoring in the Saturday competition is Eddie Azzopardi’s team with 90, then Creighton Parker’s with 70, and George Hindi’s with 65. Above are last Saturday( June 18 )2 game winners.


UP ON THE MURRAY

Ten Doncaster bowlers played in the Swan Hill Bowls Club 50th Annual Autumn Carnival. Garry Baird, Ken Morris and skip Brian Donovan won the triples event. Brian was also runner-up in the mixed pairs. A happy time was had by players and their partners. Click below for larger photo..

The 2015-16 Presentation Night was held on 30 April 2016, at the Doncaster Bowling Club.


OPEN TRIPLES CARNIVAL

The weather Gods were smiling on Doncaster for the annual Carnival Day. It had rained nonstop on the 6th of April, but on the 7th it was sunny with only the slightest of breezes. The day was sponsored by the ‘Applewood Retirement Community’ and forty teams arrived eager to win the $2000. Players came from Donvale, Montmorency, Mt Waverley, Bundoora RSL, Clayton, Ivanhoe, Armadale, Blackburn, Hurstbridge, Box Hill RSL, Mulgrave CC, Eltham, Ringwood, Caulfield Park and Doncaster.

Great Run Comes to Dramatic End

The Club’s second Mid-Week Open Side played Keilor in Divisional Semi-Final on Tuesday March 22 at Ivanhoe Bowling Club. After the mandatory 63 ends of play, scores were tied and an extra end had to be played. Alas, Doncaster succumbed to Keilor on this end. A FANTASTIC performance nevertheless by our second Open Side who won their section, won four finals along the way, and get promoted to Division 3 next season. Well done Doncaster !!

Doncaster Open Side Tames Pakenham Lions in Divisional Quarter-Final

The Club’s second Open Side has outshone once again beating the Pakenham Lions at Caulfield Park Alma to win its way into the Divisional Semi- Final. Well done Doncaster! Doncaster 76 Pakenham 49


DIVISION 1 SEMI FINALS AT DONCASTER MARCH 12th

A big crowd was in attendance to witness the two Saturday Pennant Division 1 semi-finals being played at Doncaster on March 12th. The Croydon BC was a narrow victor over the Bundoora RSL Club in one semi-final while MCC having lead all day, beat Deer Park in the other semi-final. So it is MCC v Croydon in the Division 1 final, to be played once again on the beautiful Doncaster greens on Saturday March 19th.


2016 SATURDAY PENNANT FINALS

On Saturday, March 12th, our Side 8 Triples Team played Dandenong at Blackburn BC in the Divisional Quarter-Final. They played valiantly but without success. The highlight of the afternoon was a 6 by Kevin Mason’s rink, the equivalent of an 8 in fours game. A great achievement by Side 8 to have reached this stage of the finals.


2016 TUESDAY OPEN SECTIONAL SEMI FINALS

Melbourne’s record breaking hot and humid weather intervened on Tuesday March 10th during the play of the Sectional Semi-Finals. Play stopped when the temperature reached 36 degrees just after midday. Players waited in the club house for over six hours until 7:30pm before the temperature dropped below 36 degrees and play resumed. Both Doncaster open sides won their respective matches. The top open side was involved in an epic struggle against Whittlesea. Scores were tied after the mandatory 63 ends of play. An extra end had to be played. Doncaster won this deciding end and qualified for the …

TUESDAY OPEN FINALS WINNERS

On Thursday, March 3, two Doncaster Open Teams proceeded to Donvale to play in the Final for the Open Sectional Finals. Doncaster Open team 1 defeated Montmorency 62 to 49 and Doncaster Open team 2 defeated Mooroolbark 57 to 53 making both teams winners of the Sectional Finals to now compete in the Divisional Finals. Congratulations to both teams on their magnificent achievement.
