OPEN TRIPLES CARNIVAL – Doncaster Bowling Club

 

OPEN   TRIPLES   CARNIVAL  

 

The weather Gods were smiling on Doncaster for the annual Carnival Day. It had rained nonstop on the 6th of April, but on the 7th it was sunny with only the slightest of breezes. The day was sponsored by the ‘Applewood Retirement Community’ and forty teams arrived eager to win the $2000. Players came from Donvale, Montmorency, Mt Waverley, Bundoora RSL, Clayton, Ivanhoe, Armadale, Blackburn, Hurstbridge, Box Hill RSL, Mulgrave CC, Eltham, Ringwood, Caulfield Park Alma and Doncaster. Three games of 13 ends were scheduled for the day with play suspended at 12.30 for a delicious hot roast dinner including sweets. By 4pm prizes were being presented to the happy winners by Allison and Carla representing ‘Applewood’. The BIG prize went to Fred Duthie, Graeme Bravo, Ken Marshall(Blackburn), 2nd prize to Doug Sexton, Jack Lydiate, Peter Templeton(Ivanhoe), and 3rd prize to a ladies team, Barbara Vaughan, Kelly McKerihen, Ann McCarthy(Clayton, Caulfield Park Alma). Next, the best 1st game went to a Montmorency team, Ron Coe, G Gilmore, G Parker, 2nd best game came from Donvale, Geoff Smith, Terry Cooper, Rob Fairweather, and the 3rd best game from Doncaster , Carl Giardina, Sandy McDonald , Lyn Goodman. Then of course were the resting touchers, one for each game. These were won by Peter Reilly ( Mt Waverley), Brian McDonald (Box Hill RSL) and Jeff Lander (Montmorency).

Thanks to all who donated prizes for the raffles. There were several hampers, a dinner at ‘Applewood’, a heart monitor, bottles of spirits and wine, relaxation and beauty products and a special ticket for free bus travel for a whole year. Thanks also to Kath White, Pat Calabrisi, Ian Golding and John Harding who prepared nibbles and worked in the bar, Bert Jackson and Peter Goodman for selling the raffle tickets, John Broadfoot for early morning outside preparation and collecting the cards, and the planning committee of Ash Rowe, Sandy McDonald ,Gerda Van der Peet, Dinesh Balgovind and Lyn. The biggest thankyou of all goes to Robert Bateup who was head of the planning committee. Last but not least thankyou to Gerda and Brian Salvage for their expertise before and on the day.
