OPENING NIGHT 2024 and CHARITY DAY

Another season is almost underway. Friday 30th August saw new members and old, gather to renew friendships and to reminisce over what had happened during the winter months.

Robert Bateup was the MC and at the beginning of the evening he farewelled Kerim Sozbir who has been in Australia on a Bachelor Education exchange just for one year. Kerim saw the barefoot bowling sign and thought he would try this sport. He has been such a positive, friendly and joyful person to have with us for 12 months, but his home city of Bolu in Turkey calls, where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Coaching Education.

Ash Rowe spoke about the community organisations which use the club rooms for their activities and also of the improvements to the building that the council has helped the Club to achieve.

Peter Demeris, Phil Rock and Irene Garrett outlined the Pennant teams for 2024 and Gerda Van der Peet summarized winter indoor bowls.

Several raffles were won, dinner was enjoyed we went home happy.

Saturday 31st August was the Children’s Hospital Charity day which raised $560.

Club champion Fred Duthie rolled the first bowl of the season, then the teams chosen by the ‘pick a bat’ method played in what seemed like hurricane conditions. I am sure everyone was glad to come inside for drinks at the end of 21 ends.
