VALE BOB GRISOLD – Doncaster Bowling Club
VALE BOB GRISOLD
July 27th. It is with much sadness that our club says farewell to another player from the ‘White Flag ‘ team.
1st 2018 . A Memorial Service was held at Tobin Bros. Reflections of Life Chapel in Doncaster Road today for Bob Grisold who recently passed away. A large crowd of mourners consisting of family, friends and members from Doncaster Bowling Club attended. Speeches from his family covered many of Bob’s glory days of sport, and how he was such a great family man. It was moving to see the love portrayed by his close knit family towards him. Accolades were also spoken by our Kevin Mason (above) who represented Doncaster Bowling Cub. Kevin told those who attended of Bob’s achievements over the many years of their friendship…….Bob Urquhart.
Saturday July 28th. Bob Grisold was so well regarded that he was a life member and in 2016 in a special ceremony our back green was named after him. Kevin Mason (who has been a friend since the 1970’s) sadly said today, that he was a great player, a thorough gentleman and someone who looked after new players.
He has won many trophies over his bowling career, both on the outside greens and inside on the carpet. Trophies were won within the club, at metropolitan and at state level. According to the DBC Honour Boards his name has been in gold for various titles from 1973 right through to 1998. He has won titles both in singles games and in team games. He was a member of both ‘White Flag’ Premierships. He won the Men’s Pairs five times, and won the Men’s Singles twice but 19 years apart. Even in April 2006 he was playing in the Doncaster 4’s side as part of the Australian Past President’s Carnival in Canberra, and they “brought home the bacon.” ( See more of this story in the Photo Gallery section.)
He was the Treasurer for 13 years straight.
He was bowling competitively up till about four years ago. Bob was 94.
He really was Doncaster’s Champion of Champions.
Vale to another Doncaster champion. R.I.P. Bob Grisold. …..Lyn Goodman.
Bob Urquhart has made a collage of photos some from the day that back green was named The Bob Grisold Green.
