2018 PRESENTATION (DAY) AND NIGHT. – Doncaster Bowling Club

Ninety members were seated by 6pm when Brian Morris introduced this year’s Bowls Section President Dinesh Balgovind. Dinesh summarised the year’s pennant achievements noting that two teams made the finals, several were fifth on the ladder and not one was relegated. This was especially pleasing as four teams were promoted a division from last year.

Dinesh then presented the Super Veterans badges. There must have been something in the water in 1937-38, because 11 members each received one. Tony Hogan, Ron Jenkins, Ken Smith, Bernie Mullins, Graeme Warren, Phil Rock, Neville Bradshaw, Barry Hardman, Lorraine Bradshaw, Bob Byron, and Ian Golding, each accepted their badge as Brian Morris recited their length of membership, their bowling achievements and the positions held within the club.

Dinesh also presented the winners of the 8 badges. This Open Midweek Team was skipped by Fran Broadfoot with players Ofisa Scanlan, Bev Allibon, and Ron Jenkins.

Next it was Bowls Section Vice President Dianne Phelan’s turn to present awards.

This year the Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to Lou Anastassiou. Dinesh noted Lou’s various roles and contribution to the club. This included his role as Treasurer and Umpire for a number of years and more recently as an accredited Coach. Dinesh concluded the evening by thanking the members who do volunteer in all the various tasks  around the club at all hours of the day and some of which goes unnoticed. We could however do with more helpers especially men. I will personally add something here……If you are capable enough to play a two or three hour game of bowls you are quite well enough and energetic enough to help around the club……Lyn Goodman.
