NORFOLK ISLAND VISIT – Doncaster Bowling Club

Five Doncaster Bowlers (John Phillips, Tim Fewster, Gary Baird, Richard Hanson and Sue Tyson) accepted an invitation to join Donvale Bowling Club’s contingent of 50 people on its Bowling holiday to Norfolk Island. We left on Saturday, 18th August, and returned on the 25th. Apparently the weather wasn’t as good as usual, however, lowest overnight temperature was 10 degrees and highest day temperature was 21 degrees. Both greens were running well at 16 and there was also a little wind. Our accommodation was very good and each cabin came with a hire car. The people of Norfolk were always very accommodating as tourism is their main source of income. We now have a much better understanding of Norfolk’s history and The Mutiny on the Bounty has a new significance for us. After six days of bowling, the men’s final was a very hard fought contest over 21 ends of 3 bowl triples between Wangaratta and Norfolk’s very own Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallists.    Gary Baird
