WHAT A BUSY WEEK THAT WAS!

Five  different events in four days has made it a busy week. Special thanks to all the men who helped to move tables and chairs around and in and out of storage.

First, Tuesday afternoon was the AGM. About 60 members attended. The highlight was Allan Newstead receiving an award for his 50 years of membership……that’s 1971 to 2021!!! Think back to what you were doing in 1971. Well done Allan 👍👏 Allan is always in the Saturday Pennant teams.

On Wednesday evening the Manningham Council held a cocktail party in the clubrooms. The 150+ invited guests were volunteers from 48 various and different organisations in the district. They were as diverse as gardening clubs , Rotary, CWA, many sports clubs  for all age groups, Women’s friendship groups and the  Interfaith Network.

The Mayor, Cr Andrew Condon spoke of the  unique methods which these  Clubs had  kept in touch with their members during last year’s lockdown. For example the  Templestowe Football Club held a virtual ‘ fitness boot camp’, the Donvale Bowls Club developed a roster to ensure that the members who lived alone received a call to make sure they were ok, and the Interfaith Network collaborated with VicPol to supply food to international students who were left without an income.  The Mayor then launched the EveryAGE Counts campaign and this year’s Manningham Civic Awards.

Hardy Shum who is the 2019 Citizen of the Year also spoke of his experience.

Thursday morning saw the usual set of volunteers back on the green for the return of the Doncaster Secondary College year 11 physical education class.  There were some good bowlers among  these teenagers having fun.

Thursday evening was the Monthly Wednesday night meal …..obviously a day late. The meal was followed by Dinesh’s song and movie Trivia night.

But wait there’s more….Lastly on Friday both in the morning and afternoon, extra classes from Doncaster Secondary College year 11’s arrived to learn and to play. The morning session especially was a real success because the teacher accompanying the students plays bowls. A special thanks to Lou Anastassiou, Pete Hanson, John Nelson, John Thorburn and Robert Graham for all the hours spent with the students.

Thankyou to John Thorburn for supplying many of these photos….Lyn.
